Bro. James takes the Chair


At our Regular Meeting and Annual Installation on 27th December 2016 Bro. James Thom was installed as RWM of our Antient Lodge for the Second Time.

Brother James, who was initated on 2 October 2006, Passed on 4 December 2006, Raised 5 March 2007 and Advanced on 4 February 2008, was Installed by Bro. Peter Thomson PM and Bro. Kevin McLeish PM who were James' Proposer and Seconder resepectfully.

Also assisting with the Installation was Bro. Craig Stevenson, Past Master of Elgin's Lodge at Leven No. 91, who was Installing Senior Warden, Bro. Kenneth McMaster PM, RWM of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No. 85, who was Installing Junior Warden and Bro. Kevin Ferguson PM, Lodge St, James BURA No. 424 who was Installing Inner Gaurd. The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Roxburgh, Peebles & Selkirk Shires, Bro. John Blackie presented the VSL.

On the afternoon 63 signed the book with a number of visitors from within and out-with the province including a fine deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Roxburgh, Peebles and Selkirk Shires, headed on this occasion by the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Bro. John W. Blackie.  

The 272st occasion of the Festival of Holy St. John was celebrated when 40 Brethren assembled outside the George & Abbotsford Hotel on a dry, mild, calm evening.  

Headed by Bro. Matthew Burges MM, who acted as Tyler,  along with the Melrose Pipe Band and with torches ablaze the Brethren proceeded via the High Street and Buccleuch Street to Melrose Abbey where an Oration was delivered by Bro. Alistair W. Little PM & Provincial Grand Secretary of PGL Roxburgh, Peebles and Selkirk Shires.

The Brethren then returned to the Lodge via Abbey Street, three times round the Market Cross and the Market Square.

The Festival was further celebrated in the George & Abbotsford Hotel when 34 Brethren sat down to the Installation Dinner which was followed by toasts including a fine toast to The Holy St. John which was elegantly delivered by Bro. Norman Donald, PM Lodge St. Ronans No. 856 & Provincial Grand Chaplian.
